Default megasquirt edis with COP? - 03-30-2012, 02:54 PM

Ive been talking to someone on another forum doing this and cant quite figure out the schematic, if any of you have information on it then maybe it would help.

the megasquirt schematic for just running EDIS is this:

but obviously you wouldnt be using the coilpack, i drew up this off of it, i know im missing a condensor and i think this is how it should be wired up, but would pin 8 connect to the coils at all?

note that condenser should be before everything connects to ground and all ground wires should go to condenser first. as well as pin 8 going to the condenser. It just seems that it would need to connect to something else.

This would be used with "dumb" COP's that only have 2 prongs similar to this

any information on this or someone who actually knows about wiring?

you would still be running waste spark....

on the schematic i drew up, the positive feed wire going from 1 to 4 are both connected to the same terminal on coil 1 (positive input) and similarly with coils 2 and 3. causing wasted spark, question would be in the output that triggers the coils stong enough for the coil to fire properly or should the switched 12v be incorporated somehow in it? if so how?

I believe you have the schematic backwards....

I power my coilpacks through a separate relay - it's the EDIS unit that provides the ground. This is how all EDIS based coilpacks work. I didn't look at your diagram close enough to see that you had all 4 grounded together - that isn't correct.

The only advantage you will have to running this is you won't have a coilpack and spark plug wires.... not really any other advantage.

Also having the right megasquirt helps. EDIS will run without a computer, but you will have zero spark advance.

Unless you're going 20v and don't want to pay the absurd price for dizzy relocation kit or chop/bash your firewall, the whole thing is just a headache. Been there a few times.

Personally I highly recommend regular coil packs. Absolutely genius idea. Thank you Ford!

btw just swapped a ford coil pack to my vr6 and it works like a charm lol still sounds wicked odd even tho it works.

any MS unit can be set up to run EDIS.... then spark advance is handled through MS.

The one I was building for someone couldn't be upgraded or flashed apparently. Dunno, just ended parting it out per the owner thanks to MS, so I dunno. COPs can be run on 20v with stock ECU silver or blacktop. I liked them and worked perfect!

ok, getting two different opinions from two forums, i guess ill keep it simple and just go with the tercel/paseo coilpacks and wire it up to them to keep it looking a little nicer than ford coilpacks. That is unless i find some 2 pin coilpacks that fit in nicely.

also it will be running MSII 3.57 and that definitely has ignition control.

Toyotaspeed90. I do see how that could just to control ground, that does make sense, just would be needing the resistor to allow the correct voltage to be driven to the coilpacks then and then wire the negative terminals into the edis module with the power being set up in parallel and grounds in series.

also josh, this will be on a 3tc. so no relocation kit.
